Already in May I ordered two tickets at the German Gensis-Fanclub for this show, so we got two seats in the second line almost in the middle of the stage.
Even though it was mid-September the weather was still fine so we took the bike to go there and arrived at the UdK 10 min before the show should start. I Never was there before. A theatre-clock was ringing so the rest of the audience should know it would start in the next minutes. It was not possible to take something to drink inside so we took our seats. As in a theatre the doors were closed and the show started immediately.
The band members came out - keyboard player Roger King, drummer Gary O’Toole, sax and flute player Rob Townsend, and bassist and guitarist Roine Stolt - also singer Nad Sylvan but he were more active later on - they took their places and started to play. With the first notes also the lightshow started which didn't fit to my wife's eyes - especially the red and white light - but she took it herolike. Steve Hackett started with a song from his new record "Wolflight". After this he introduced himself that the show is splitted in two parts. The first part would be from his solo records and the second part with Genesis songs which weren't played very often at the Genesis shows. I was excited which songs this would be.
The first songs within the solo stuff set were ok but not really my like. It changed when I recognized a song from the record "Voyage Of The Acolyte", (I think it was "Stars of Sirius" but I am not sure). With some more songs from this record the first set ended after 70 - 80 min with a short break where we took something to drink outside.
The clock was ringing, we returned to our seats and were prepared for the second part. It started with "Get 'em Out by Friday". Now singer Nad Sylvan was more involved to sing (only background within the first set). My wife noticed that he was leaving very often the stage after his part was over. I explained her that Genesis songs somethimes are very long with a lot of instrumental stuff so why should he stay there all the time? It was phantastic to hear all these old songs from "Nursery Cryme", "Foxtrot" , "Selling England by the Pound" and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". Absolute highlight this evening was "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" from which I knew the lyrics pretty well so I tried to sing it completely (rolling eyes by my wife). Anyway, "The Cinema Show" and "The Musical Box" were also highlights in the set. The set was finished - the band bowed to the audience and left the stage. Everyone were giving standing ovations to bring them back on stage. After 2 minutes they returned and played two more songs - than it was really over.
We were out of the venue at 23:30 pm and arrived at home at 0:00 am. What a wonderful gig.
