Invited some weeks before via Facebook by The Sunpilots themselves, I tried to activate some people for this gig - especially my brother in law from Finland who was in Berlin for some days with a couple of his friends. The day before they saw Paul Simon and Sting at the O2 World - but no one liked to go out at this day.
So I went there by bus (same direction as the Yaam Club). On the way I tried again to activate another friend who lives nearby for this event, but he was not that spontaneous.
I arrived there at 9pm and enterd the area - a place near the river Spree - flats made out of used wood and windows and an old ship-container where the gig should happen.
Outside were five people waiting and inside The Sunpilots still managed their stuff and made their soundcheck.
My first thought was, "please not again so less people. They don't deserve this." But time after time some more people were coming.
After a while Kay - the drummer - was coming out and we talked a little bit about their time in the US and what other gigs I saw in the meantime after they left Berlin in September.
The next one of The Sunpilots who was coming out was Adil - the Bass player - the Austria man. With him I talked German also about their US-gig and his other band-project in Vienna. Also Bob - guitar player - was looking for some fresh air before the people went in - expecting that the gig would begin.
Last but not least I saw Raj inside the container and we hugged before they started.
This gig was announced as a Live recording session because the owner had so much trouble in the past with the GEMA (a performance rights organisation in Germany). So there were no tickets but supporting the band with some money was welcomed.
After some introducing words by the owner Franz Rodeck they started to play around 10pm and the little container was filled by maybe 20 to 25 people - good atmosphere.
They played almost all songs from their last record King Of The Sugarcoated Tongues, one or two songs from their first record Living Receiver and the two classics All the lonely people and All along the watchtower. In the meantime more people were inside - also some visitors from Albania who were dancing behind me.
They palyed the last song at maybe half past 11 - in the end they had to stand behind a picture-frame (see picture). Once again I bought a CD of them - signed by the four guys, some more talk but than it was time for me to go. Maybe 00:30 am I was at home.
