As they announced it already several weeks and the days before, this was the farewell gig of The Sunpilots here in Berlin. They will leave EU in September for a 3 month US-Tour and no one can say if it will take only 3 months.
There were two other bands / artists playing this day so I asked Raj which band will play at what time. He told me that they were scheduled for 11 pm so there was enough time for my wife and me to get prepared for it (back from work at 8 pm, some relaxing time, shower ...).
We arrived there around 10 pm and it was raining all the time which might be a desicion-point for someone not to go there and stay at home.
When we were going inside - first time at the Privatclub - the second band Benny Slint was still preparing their equipment for their show so we had enough time to get of the jackets, ordering something to drink and to tell Anja how she could get there.
When Benny Slint began there show I was surprised how pretty good the singer was.
In the meantime I saw Adil and Raj within the audience. We were hugging and talking a little bit about the future and the past. Also Anja was arriving so we were waiting for the Farewell show of The Sunpilots.
After a short soundcheck they started their show around 11:30 pm with the song Faking this from their first record Living receiver which I partly recorded (see videos below).
Already at the first song I realized that the soundmixer didn't do his job pretty well. The whole sound was too loud (especially the drum) and Raj had to fight against the sound so in my opinion he couldn't bring his whole potential to the audience. Best example for this was The Piper's Mirror - one of my favorites - where the very high singing passages weren't coming that clear I knew from other shows.
Anyway, me and the rest of the audience liked the show. I tried to make some good photos and 3 video-shots. There were a lot of songs where Bob could make a guitar-solo which sounded pretty well.
When they announced their last song for this evening I knew it had to be Exodus and I was right. I became somekind of sentimental when Raj was singing the lyrics goodbye ... goodbye ... goodbyyyyyyye.
The audience was enthuiastic and wanted to have more music (Zugabe - Zugabe) so they played two more songs - cover version of the Beatles song All the lonely people and the Jimmi Hendrix (Bob Dylan) song All along the watchtower. They finished short before 1 am the next day. I asked Raj if I - as a groupie - could take the setlist and he asked me how the show was. I told him my opinion about the soundmixing and he also thought that it was too loud.
Anyway me and my wife were totally happy that we didn't miss their last show here in Berlin. Once again I bought the CD King Of The Sugarcoated Tongues and gave it to Anja as a present which made her happy.
I said goodbye to all of them - except Kai (didn't catch him this evening) and we left the Privatclub at 1:15 am. At home again I put one of the photos to Twitter - Facebook and fall to sleep sometime after 2 am.
Setlist like it was written on the stage-paper:
