Today was the Uli Jon Roth concert at the Lido, and even though I hadn’t really been in the mood for a concert all day, I was actually really glad I treated myself to this one. Nearly three hours of rock at its finest.
Doors opened at 6:30 p.m. The show was scheduled to start at 8 p.m. I got there around 7:30 p.m., and there was absolutely no one at the entrance. By the time I went inside, quite a few people were already sitting around, relaxing in the adjoining room (the coat check and smoking area) or in the concert hall itself. I sat down in the side room, sipped my beer, and watched the crowd. About 80% were my age or older, wearing band T-shirts or denim vests. I still didn’t really have a good feeling about the concert. Slowly, the side room emptied out, and you could already hear music coming from the hall. So I went in too and positioned myself at the bar—there was plenty of room there. Now the hall was pretty full.
