Pearl Jam @Wuhlheide

Some days before the gig started a friend at work told me that he is going to the already sold out gig of Pearl Jam with opener Ben Harper. I told him that could also be something for me but sold out is sold out.
The evening before the gig he called me that he couldn't go and if I like to get the ticket he had. YES, YES - I took it and drove to the Wuhlheide for the first time in my life. After I passed the checkpoint and reached the upper end of the Wuhlheide amphitheatre (capacity of 20-30.000 people) at 7:15 pm I heard the last accords of Ben Harper. I missed him what a pitty. So I was looking for a nice place in the shadow (very hot) and with a good view to the stage. I was maybe 10 steps upper than the ground area so no big foot could disturbe my view.
The schedule plan said Pearl Jam should start at 8:30 but they already came out at 8 pm.
From the first moment the people - these old grungers - were totally thrilled by the sound of PJ. They could sing every song of them. I can't remember if I know any song of PJ (focus in the 90's was quite different) but "Alive" was one song I recognized.
After 1 hour they made a short break and came back when Eddie started to tell about the Roskilde festival in Denmark exactly this day 10 years ago where 9 fans died at their gig (see sample 2. It was very emotional - it was silent in the big round. But some people near me seemed not to listen what he was talking about. There was a couple which was phoning with a friend how wonderful this is - what an event and bla ... during the moment where everyone should remember the lost people. After the gig I told them how stupid this was.
Anyway, show must go on. For one song (Kick Out The Jams) they were also supported by the guitar player of REM (Peter Buck).
Finally PJ was playing more than 2 hours and the people left the venue with a smile on their face. Me, too.
